Description
When someone says WOW, think of Mount Kilimanjaro, with its three volcanic cones, Kibo, Mawenzi, and Shira, which is a dormant volcanic mountain in Tanzania.
A small family of African Bush Elephants is home to this vast area along with other fauna of the African continent.
Mount Kilimanjaro is the highest mountain in Africa and the highest free-standing mountain in the world at 5,895 metres or 19,341 feet above sea level (the Uhuru Peak/Kibo Peak).
Kilimanjaro is composed of three distinct volcanic cones: Kibo, the highest at 5,895 m (19,341 ft); Mawenzi at 5,149 m (16,893 ft); and Shira, the shortest at 3,962 m (13,000 ft).
Uhuru Peak is the highest summit on Kibo's crater rim.
Kilimanjaro is a large Stratovolcano with three peaks, Mawenzi and Shira are extinct, while Kibo, the highest, is dormant and could erupt again.
The last major eruption has been dated to between 150,000 and 200,000 years ago and although dormant, Kibo has gas-emitting fumaroles in its crater.
Several collapses and landslides have occurred on Kibo in the past, one creating the area known as the Western Breach.
African bush elephants are the largest living terrestrial animals, being up to 3.96 m (13.0 ft) tall at the shoulders.
Fauna is all of the animal life of any particular region or time, and Zoologists as well as paleontologists use fauna to refer to a typical collection of animals found in a specific time or place, e.g. the "Mount Kilimanjaro fauna" or the "Burgess Shale fauna".
East Africa has rich Coral fauna with about 400 known species and more than 400 species of Echinoderms, 500 species of Bryozoa, approximately 100,000 species of insects, fish, amphibians, reptiles, more than 2600 bird species, and is home to more than 1100 mammal species all living in Africa.
That's why when you hear the word "WOW" think of Mount Kilimanjaro.
