Description
New York Harbor, part of the Port of New York and New Jersey, is at the mouth of the Hudson River where it empties into New York Bay.
It is one of the largest natural harbors in the world.
Although the United States Board on Geographic Names does not use the term, New York Harbor has important historical, governmental, commercial, and ecological usages and home to many types of birds, namely the Ring-Billed Sea Gull.
The Ring-Billed Gull is a medium-sized gull. Adults are 49 cm (19 in) length and with a 124 cm (49 in) wingspan.
The head, neck and underparts are white; the relatively short bill is yellow with a dark ring; the back and wings are silver gray; and the legs are yellow.
The eyes are yellow with red rims. This gull takes three years to reach its breeding plumage; its appearance changes with each fall moult.
Their breeding habitat is near lakes, rivers or the coast in Canada and the northern United States.
Dawn (from an Old English verb dagian "to become day") is the time that marks the beginning of the twilight before sunrise.
It is recognized by the presence of weak sunlight, while the Sun itself is still below the horizon.
Dawn should not be confused with sunrise, which is the moment when the leading edge of the Sun itself appears above the horizon.
During dawn (and dusk) it is usually possible (provided that the sky is cloud-free) to see approximately in which direction the Sun lies, though it is below the horizon.
